NETGEAR routers that support ReadySHARE allow you to connect a standard USB storage device (hard disk or flash) to the router and make it available to people on your network or over internet. While most USB storage devices will work, only those on the compatibility list are officially supported: ReadySHARE USB drive compatibility list
• Sharing Large Files with Colleagues
– Sending files that are larger than 5 MB can pose a problem for many e-mail systems. The router allows you to share very large files such as PowerPoint presentations or ZIP files with colleagues at another site. Rather than tying up their mail systems with large files, your colleagues can use FTP to easily download shared files from the router.
• The USB port on the router can be used only to connect USB storage devices like flash drives or hard drives.
– The router should work with most USB-compliant external flash and hard drives. For the most up-to-date list of USB drives supported by the router, go to: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/answer_media/readyshare/
• USB drives that require drivers to be loaded in to the PC first will NOT work with the DGND3700 router.
• Do NOT connect computers, USB modems, printers, CD drives, or DVD drives to the router's USB port.
• The router works with 1.0 and 1.1 (USB Full Speed) and 2.0 (USB High Speed) standards.
• Sharing Photos with Friends and Family
– You can create your own central storage location for photos and multimedia. This eliminates the need to log in to (and pay for) an external photo sharing site.
Understanding the router's ReadySHARE GUI
• ALL USB devices connected will have the same "Network" name. Default is ReadySHARE.
• The Drive Letter (i.e.: 'U:\') in the "Folder Name" column is NOT the assigned drive letter on your PC. This is the internal drive letter used by the DGND3700 to identify each share (you CANNOT change the assigned letter)
– The driver letters will start at U and goes up one letter for each additional USB device added to the DGND3700
• The USB device will automatically be shared each and every time it is connected to the DGND3700.
– If you have un-mounted the USB device, but did not unplug the USB device, unplug and re-plug the USB device will enable the sharing again.
– If you logged into the router before you connected your USB device, you might not see your USB device in the router screens until you log out and then log back in again.
Accessing the ReadySHARE (Local)
• On Windows, select Start > Run and enter \\readyshare in the dialog box. Click OK.
• Open Explorer or Safari and enter \\readyshare in the Address Bar.
Accessing the Shares via HTTP
• If you have HTTP access enable (disabled by default), you can access the shares using the LAN and/or WAN IP address of the DGND3700.
–In this case, our WAN is 10.1.20.151
Accessing the Shares via FTP
• You can use the DGND3700 admin or guest account to access the shares via FTP. When logging in as guest, type "guest" for username & leave password field blank.
